FAQ By Mr. Yusuf Mansoor Part - 6

Q: How to increase wetness of these pens?

A: Two basics considering nib is OK👇

1. Decrease the distance between nib and feed tipping,

2. Springing 4-5 times on any hard surface (pressure exceeding your writing  pressure) on any hard surface like table top.

Also check for

1. Tight tine,
2. Fused tipping

Q: why same ink behave differently in different Pens,
A: there are several things which can affect the ink flow.
1. All makers who produce pen and ink both, make adjustment according to their feed system for better flow hence same pen and inks (sheaffer pen & ink or MB pen & ink) are better compatible..
2. Quality of lubricant in the ink can hamper flow resulting in poor or dry flow.
3. Dye and ink base ratio can also affect flow, for example adding distilled water in dry ink can enhance flow.
4. Paper quality behaves differently for different composition of ink. A less soaking paper serves better for water based ink.
5. Moisture content of paper also greatly affects the flow and/or control the paper behavior, for example with high humidity papers behave like bloating paper.
Over all more than ink it's the pen component which controls the ink flow hence same ink behaves differently in different pens.

FAQ By Mr. Yusuf Mansoor Part - 4

Q: Kindly suggest which nib is best out of jowo, bock, schmidt ?
A: Few things to remember,
1. All Jowo, Bock or schmidt nibs are generic nib,
2. All of them have passing quality control hence have fail save ratios,
3. Schmidt is Bock made for economic range,
Hence out of the box no one can guarantee, however reviews and personal experiences of people vouch for Jowo nib.

Q: We are all aware the fame of  Jowo,Schmidt and Bock nibs, what about Kanwrite nibs? How they fare with them?

A: Very good and relevant question,
Almost all of us are aware of international generic nib maker   with varied experience.
However we have less spoken about our own indigenous nibs like Kanwrite and Ambitious. My 2paisa👇
Kanwrite: they are as par with international maker in almost all aspect superseding almost all others in EF - F segment. Please note their new batch with improved look is truly international, not only that Kanwrite cater to every body's need and have most varieties internationally covering almost all range. Also undoubtedly they listen to their client and most accessible.
2. Ambitious: is another established nib maker from India who is in this business for ages, unfortunately they thrive on OEM business and they are happy with the way they operates. Whatever they make is good enough but certainly they prefer playing safe hence lack varieties.
They cant match Kanwrite's range or services. Not at all accessible hence limited to few individuals.

Q: kindly share the difference between italic and stub for everyone's benefit?

A: Good question,
In principle both Italic and Stubs are the same with flattened contact point.
Having said that, Italics have variable contact points and also named as such like
1. Normal Italic: Stub
2. Cursive Italic: rounded side bottom contact point,
3. Crisp Italic: Sharp side bottom contact point for better griping on paper for cursive writing, often useful for Italic Cursive.
CI being smooth truncated side bottom touch point can b used for regular writing as well as normal Italic nib

FAQ By Mr. Yusuf Mansoor Part - 3

Q: What is the best cloth material to clean and wipe fountain pens?

A: Hozri cloth like your ganji For polishing micro fiber cloth..

Q: What is the best way to storing inked pens nib end up ad opposed to storing them horizontal..have heard both..

A: Suppose to b no issue storing in what so ever way you wish, A pen which requires a storing procedure lacks quality.
Having said that, the best way is to keep them upright like we keep in our pocket. Pl note a fountain pen is the function of fluid balance and capillary system, so once saturated they should suppose to be remain saturated over a period of time without being in use

Q: Sometimes I hear X pen is dry ... should we review says it's wet so if I purchase high end pen how would I be sure about this ?

A: No two pens are similar, each and every pen even of the same make and variants stands alone. Having said that all quality pens passes thru a certain kind of grind and quality check, hence they may or may ot fulfill personal criterion but they certainly provide enough cushion to write with.
By the way dry or wetness is a composite function of pen components and fluid in use. So before concluding its imperative to test with different inks and also following the standard procedure of first time inking.

Q: What are the parameters based on which we accept or reject as our go to daily pen?

A: There should not b more than 2, rest every thing is optional parameter..
1. Balance of the pen for comfortable writing..foremost,
2. Well tuned nib,
Note: Pen weight, section type & girth, pen size and girth, post-ability are part of an individual's choice which comes under balance,
Otherwise only other additional "optional criteria" may be Pen material and appearance IMHO.
